--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello fellows.

I have got a problem with my 01 GL1800 (EU) frame. Although it is not a frame itself, I've got 2 even cracks on the lower tubes that support the rear upper frame. They also hold mufflers and sidebags.

Currently I'm trying to find our what local Honda thinks of this all, but yet it seems cost very much efforts to have them even take a look at it.

I have put about 45000 km last summer, half of them with those cracks, with a passenger. It started from unknown behavior of the bike at hight speeds, routine frame inspection didn't give anything. Until it became very scary sometimes, especially when overtaking at 200 km/h on the highway. I digged under the bike with a light and saw them. They whent from umderneath the tubes and by the inner side of them so when you look at those tubes from the side you can't see anything. The rest of the frame is ok.

We have tried just to weld thoise cracks once, in a few days they appeared again. The person who welded said that since it is alluminium we better know what kind of it it is to find the right materials for welding. He also told that it would be better if we try to add something to support since the thikness of the tube is very small. Sorry for poor words.

Guess with know how to make it better: we will take a tube with a larger diameter, cut it by two halves so they'd be look like "U" warm it until it gets soft and put it to the down and upper sides of the original tubes, nd then weld it altogether. Yet this is the only idea that comes to mind about how to solve the problem.

If anyone have anything to advice about this technology, welding components and etc, please do. I will be very much appreciated for that.

Photos of the frame (just before and after welding) could be seen at:

Thanks a lot for the help
